Moderation Guidelines
Last updated: March 1, 2026
1. Purpose of Moderation
HireSignal's moderation process exists to ensure that all published data is structured, factual, legally safe, and free from identifying information. Moderation is not censorship. It is quality control that protects both candidates and employers while maintaining the integrity of our analytics.
2. What Gets Moderated
Every report submitted to HireSignal passes through our moderation pipeline. Moderators review submissions for: personally identifiable information (names, specific dates, locations that could identify individuals); inflammatory, defamatory, or emotionally charged language; unverifiable claims or allegations; content that could pose legal risks to the platform or its users; spam, duplicates, or clearly fabricated reports.
3. Moderation Actions
Moderators may take the following actions: (a) Approve: the report meets all quality standards; (b) Edit: identifying information or inflammatory language is replaced with neutral alternatives while preserving factual substance; (c) Return: the report is sent back to the submitter with guidance on corrections needed; (d) Remove: the report does not meet minimum quality standards and cannot be corrected.
4. Moderation Standards
Our moderation team follows documented, auditable standards: Language must be factual and neutral. Opinions are accepted when framed as personal experience, not universal statements. Claims must be based on first-hand experience. No hearsay or second-hand accounts. Descriptions must be specific enough to be actionable but general enough to protect anonymity. Emotional intensity is moderated to maintain professional, editorial tone.
5. Moderator Training
All HireSignal moderators receive specialized training in: employment law fundamentals and fair comment principles; bias detection and neutral language standards; data privacy and anonymization techniques; structured data quality assessment. Moderators are periodically audited for consistency and accuracy.
6. Appeals Process
If a report is edited or removed, the submitter may request a review. Appeals are handled by a senior moderation team member who was not involved in the original decision. Appeal decisions are final and are communicated within 5 business days.
7. Transparency Reporting
HireSignal publishes quarterly moderation transparency reports detailing: total reports submitted; reports approved, edited, returned, and removed; most common moderation reasons; average moderation turnaround time. These reports are available on our Insights page.
8. Employer Disputes
Employers who believe published aggregate data contains inaccuracies may submit a formal dispute. Our compliance team reviews the underlying moderated data and responds within 10 business days. Individual reports are never disclosed during this process.
